6 Reviews of the Halo 43
By: HONIBEA100 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
I love this tent, its quick and easy to put up and down.I love the stripes and even on the dullest of days its bright inside.Great size porch area too.
One downside to the tent is no way can you sleep 4 in the sleeping area we just fitted our 3 young children on their ready beds in,it would of been better had you been able to completely remove the divider.
Well our first night we had a storm with gale winds,it withheld fantastically and not a leak in sight.
Also with the ventilation you have no condensation.
A fabulous little tent which I paid £150 for,i would recommend it to anyone. Best tent I've had.

We paid £199 for our Halo 43 from Go Outdoors in Stockport. You can get the older 2006 ('SS06') version with smaller windows for cheaper on Gear-Zone.Co.Uk, if you don't mind waiting for the order to arrive from the manufacturer (assuming it ever would).
We had to get one fairly quickly as we'd planned a trip to Shell Island on a rainy weekend, as this would be our only chance to test it (and my new Vango Beta 350) before festival season. This also meant we had to put both tents up 'blind'.
I'm not a fan of using instruction manuals and aside from a cursory glance to make sure we had all the parts, we didn't need one for the Halo 43. A very simple tent (albeit a touch awkward) for two people to erect. It was waterproof in around 20 minutes and I then spent probably another hour pegging and re-pegging the main guylines until I was satistifed I'd got everything straightish. (I made a few mistakes when tying on the flysheet which I won't make again. Start from the front, tie on ALL the velcro tabs, and work towards the bedrooms!)
First evening we made full use of the porch shelter, which nicely kept out the light rain, until it started bucketing down, then we had five comfortably sat around on full size chairs in the 'lounge'. All commented how roomy yet cosy it felt, and the dome shape meant our cheap £5 LED lantern hung from the 'ceiling' provided enough light for reading.
Johnthecamper said 'The vent on the side wall does tend to flap a bit in the wind, but that's a minor quibble.'
I also noticed this during our particularly windy first night, and by the morning I was cursing that WC hadn't simply fitted a velcro tab to the middle of the flap. I was also a bit dismayed that the front door had gradually tugged itself open during the night and was flapping about in the gale. So I had a look around the tent, and decided to try pegging out the remaining guy ropes, and lo and behold, the tent didn't make a single flappy sound after that! Absolutely steady as a rock! The vent flap has a guy line at each end, and tying both down with the flap open made it rigid and waterproof. We also made use of pegs for multiple guylines (I assume everyone does this and there are so many on the H43 it seems silly not to). On that note, the pegs are fantastic! Compared to Vango's thin bendy pegs, these are like pointy girders. It's the little things that you notice and appreciate!
The Halo 43 is very cosy. We remarked that even under cloud cover with the porch wide open, we could feel the sun's heat coming through the roof. Likewise, at 4am I awoke, hot and sweating buckets, even with the rear vent next to my head. I changed ends to put my head at the door end and opened the zip slightly to allow a lovely cool breeze through, so ventilation is obviously very good if you use it! We didn't notice any condensation either.
Everything about this tent feels well-thought-out and deliberate, whether the vents, guylines, pegs, headroom, steel poles, they are all for a good reason. It's like a VW Passat: it doesn't seem special at first, but it makes you feel comfortable, and you soon realise there's absolutely nothing to fault with it!

Well, I said I'd be back, I managed to put this tent up on my own in just under an hour from unzip the bag to step inside. It has proved stable and the porch went up on the extra 2 poles last week. Still a lovely tent and still pleased. Also great after sales service from the manufacturers- I emailed to enquire about pitching on wood chip and got a quick and helpful response.
Really made use of the 2 layer doors - you can have just bug screen doors on bedrooms and front door if you unzip the blue fabric. It does amuse me to see how many guy lines I have compared to other similar size tents, on one site I was next to a 4 man dome with 4 guy lines pegged out, I'd pegged out all 28 of mine!

The Halo 43 is much bigger than tents I've used before, but is still a pretty simple design and easy to put up with 2 people.
It pitches inner first which means the inner getting wet if it's raining, but this arrangement gives a very solid structure. I've used it in high winds and rain and it has stood up well - it's surprisingly stable.
It's important to attach all the velcro tabs on the flysheet to the poles in order to get it pitched properly.
Main advantage for me is the height in the living area, which is well over 6ft. There is plenty of room for a table and chairs for 4 people to sit around. Sleeping areas are a reasonable size for two adults.
The front porch (with big circular window) has plenty of space to cook in, and store gear. The vent on the side wall does tend to flap a bit in the wind, but that's a minor quibble.
Overall, an excellent tent.

Initially struggled to get the steel poles into the eyelets to give the tent it's shape, but after that it went very well. Was very nervous about putting it up hence 3 helpers but already thinking about how I might do it on my own.
First two nights camping Whitsun bank holiday, high winds, very stable and waterproof. Only concern was wind kept catching velcro tabs on vent and door and velcro ripping open sounded like tent ripping.
Bedrooms fitted 2 double airbeds easily, and are well ventilated-only condensation was under my daughter!
Very pleased with purchase, will come back and update if I manage to put it up on my own. Looking forward to being able to use porch poles too. Rather than be battened down against rain and wind.
Only paid £149 for mine, as 2008 model is different colour.

Its very easy to pitch, I managed on my own in the rain.
Its incredibly stable in bad weather and high winds, as well as not letting any of the weather inside.
The bedrooms are very cosy and well sized to fit an airbed.
The living space has enough height for me to stand up and move around in, and the pockets are useful for keys and such.
Really well made and thought out tent, worth every penny.

The manufacturer has advised that this model has been discontinued.
Easily accommodating 4 people in two bedrooms with zipped access between, the Halo 43 is great for families with young children.
Re-designed for 2007 the Halo range offers a true 'home from home' experience for a comfortable camping holiday. Numerous internal storage pockets help keep toys, clothing a accessories close to hand with out cluttering your living area. The communal area and porch make up more than half the total area of the tent, so there is plenty of room to move during the day. Plus three more people can easily sleep in the living area if needed, as the sewn in groundsheet covers the living area as well as the bedrooms.
Ample ventilation is provided through panels at the end of each bedroom and a large panel in one side of the living area. The bedrooms are sized for airbeds.
